Paper accepted

After much delay and procrastination, I’m finally going to publish a paper (co-written with Edward Earl) on the mountain-measuring work that I’ve done on and off for over a decade, and that now goes by the name of ORS (“Omnidirectional Relief and Steepness”). It is scheduled to appear in Solstice, a peer-reviewed electronic journal of geography and mathematics. The paper has been available (in slightly different forms) on the peaklist.org website for quite a while, but it’s good to get it in a real journal.

I do plan to do a few videos about the mathematics of measuring mountains (including the more venerable notion of topographic prominence) but that will have to wait for a less busy time.
